Create a fun hand-made toy for your cat!

Designs included in this project are:

Also check out the Cat Décor Design Pack to purchase these designs at 53% off!

Materials needed to complete Project:

  • 2 pieces of 7 ½” x 7 ½” fabric
  • 1 stick (33 inches long) - a bamboo stick works the best
  • 1/8” wide ribbon (33 inches long)
  • Catnip
  • Fiber stuffing
  • Fish Pattern (JPG and EPS file can be downloaded here)

Steps to complete project:

1. Sew embroidery file of your choice from the Cat Décor Design Pack in the center of each piece of fabric.

2. Place pattern on the top of fabric, center design inside pattern, and fasten to fabric with pins and cut pattern. A Fish Pattern is available to be downloaded here if you need one.

3. Place both pieces of fabric on top of each other right side together. Lay ribbon between both pieces with about ¼” to ½” hanging out past the tip of the fish mouth.

4. Sew a straight running stitch ¼” from the outside edge, leaving about a 1.5” opening in the center of the tail. You may want to go back over the edge where the ribbon is to reinforce it a bit more. Click picture to the left for details.

5. Cut notches out at the seam allowance around the fish. Click picture to the left for details.

6. Turn right side out.

7. Stuff with catnip and fiber stuffing.

8. Fold in seam allowance at the opening of the tail and slip-stitch closed.

9. Take the bamboo stick and carefully drill a hole about 1.5” down from the tip of the stick. Slide ribbon through the hole, and then tie a knot at the end so it doesn’t slip through the hole from the pressure of a cat playing with it on the other end.

10. Play Time! Meow! See picture below of completed project.
