despite hours of trouble shooting...

Does anyone ever find that despite hours of trouble shooting, that some designs are just not going to stitch out correctly? I'm feeling like a crazy person! I'm having an issue of fonts printing out messed up. I have tried changing upper thread tension, bobbin case tension (even replaced the bobbin case), and changed needles. I'm finding that as much as I love designs from another site (not this one), I have such problems with thread breakage, or sloppy lettering. I have adjusted the tension thinking it was the fabric type, tried sharper needles, done testing on satin stitches.

How much patience does a person need? I can't watch one more video on thread tension.

Thanks for any input,
